BONEY JAMES
NOMINATED FOR NAACP IMAGE AWARD

THE BEAT HONORED IN OUTSTANDING JAZZ
ALBUM CATEGORY

(January 9, 2014) Starting the year off with a bang, multi-platinum Saxophonist Boney James has received his second NAACP Image Award Nomination for Outstanding Jazz Album. Released in April 2013, The Beat was the #1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album for 8 weeks and has remained firmly Top 10 since. James says, "It is so gratifying to get nominated for this record. It’s my 14th CD and I really felt like it was some of my best work. It’s really all about blending genres, so to be recognized by the NAACP Image Awards in this way is a truly wonderful feeling.”

In addition to the NAACP Nom, this past year also saw The Beat honored with a GRAMMY nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album and a Soul Train Award Nomination. James’ Urban crossover hit Maker Of Love ft Raheem DeVaughn went top 15 UAC and his 2 SJ singles both topped the chart giving James the record for most Number Ones on the Billboard SJ Songs Chart since its inception.

In their review of The Beat, The New York Times said: "The relaxed charisma of Mr. James' tone is one reason his approach works...another is his sturdy sense of phrase. Like Grover Washington, Jr., a pioneer in this field, he sounds at ease but alert, and he's capable of striking an imploring tone without an overdose of saccharine."

One of the most successful instrumental artists of our time, with over 3 million records sold, Boney is in the midst of a sixty-five city tour promoting The Beat, with shows scheduled through mid 2014.
